Anal Gland Expression

Scent glands called anal glands, or more precisely anal sacs, are situated on either side of your dog's rectum. These glands typically express themselves naturally when your dog passes a stool.

Watch out for these warning signs:

  • On the carpet, your dog is rolling about.

  • Your dog is frequently licking his behind.

  • If your dog's glands are overworked, they may leak out a foul odor.

On occasion, you can notice brownish material stains in areas where your dog has sat, like on your carpet, furniture, or your lap. The glands will eventually burst. You'll see some bleeding coming from there.

It's very important to take care of this gland, expressioning it in order to give your dog a more confortable life.
